Some key elements of Vanuatu's regulations and policies are based on those of the United States. Specifically the Maritime Regulations as well as the Vanuatu Logistics Act Cap. 131 as it has been amended. This was done due to the US's internationally-known regulations and policies.
Another significant reason the Vanuatuan regulations with regards to maritime activities were enacted is the protection they offer to people who have mortgages on their sea vessels. The same courtesy is given to persons who are mortgagors. It must be stated that the registry is operated by Vanuatu Logistics & Administrative Services Limited.
This organization has its head office in the capital city of Port Vila. While the daily operations for it are conducted in their New York City office. This firm also has a number of Special Agents who are authorized to perform registry business in several major ports around the world.
