Immediate Revocation of Appointment as Assistant Commissioner
Subject: Immediate Revocation of Appointment as Assistant Commissioner
PORT VILA, VANUATU – The Commissioner of Maritime Affairs, Mr. Less John Napuati, has announced the immediate revocation of appointments for several Assistant Commissioners, following the recommendation of the Maritime Administrator. This action is taken under the authority of subsection 3(6) of the Maritime (Amendment) Act No. 4 of 2022.
This decision coincides with the cessation of the contract between the Government of Vanuatu and Vanuatu Maritime Services Limited (VMSL) in October 2024. As part of this transition, the governance and operational framework of the Vanuatu Shipping Registry will now operate under a new concession agreement with Vanuatu Logistics and Administrative Services (VLAS). This restructuring requires a realignment of statutory roles and responsibilities, rendering the previously held delegated authority under the Vanuatu Maritime Act no longer applicable.
The following individuals have had their appointments revoked:
- Mr. Arthur C. Bjorkner
- Mr. C.C. Tan
- Mr. Clive H. Grainger
- Mr. Donald J. Sheetz
- Mr. Edward Gardiner
- Mr. Gina Lee-Wan
- Mr. Robert M. Bohn
- Mr. Vasilis N. Athanassiou
- Mr. Y.F. Zee & Mr. P.C. Chang
The Commissioner expresses heartfelt gratitude for the dedicated service and contributions these individuals have made to the Vanuatu maritime sector throughout the years.
