Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation with the Italian Coast Guard

A fruitful meeting was held between Mr. Berke Ayazli, Executive Vice President of Vanuatu Logistics and Administrative Services (VLAS), the sole administrator of the Vanuatu International Shipping Registry (VISR), and the General Command of the Italian Coast Guard. Discussions addressed past challenges and introduced the vision of VLAS' new management team in fostering mutually beneficial collaboration. Mr. Ayazli emphasized the importance of VISR's transition to a more professional management team in ensuring a positive outlook for maritime operations between the relative stakeholders.

The meeting touched base on circulars issued by VISR affecting Italian ports, which were well received by the Coast Guard.

Other topics included the appointment of a Special Agent for VISR in Italy, to enhance the presence of the Vanuatu flag, and provide opportunities and incentives for new ship owners to fly the Vanuatu flag.

Moreover, in order to boost communication and transparency between flag state inspectors, it was proposed that a seminar aimed at exchanging views on operations, be held in the near future.

"We are excited to announce that our new management is set to introduce a state-of-the-art computerized system that will streamline our operations and improve efficiency. Additionally, the Government of Vanuatu has approved essential amendments to the Maritime Act, aimed at modernizing our regulatory framework and bolstering our commitment to safety and efficiency in the maritime sector", Mr. Ayazli explained.

In the coming days, Mr. Ayazli will be visiting Vanuatu flag ship owners in Italy, in order to gather their insights and concerns, reinforcing VISR's commitment to listening and responding to industry needs.

"Building and maintaining a strong relationship with the Italian Coast Guard is vital for our future operations, and we are excited about the path ahead", Mr. Ayazli said.
