The registry undertakes strict measures in its commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and operational performance of Vanuatu-flagged vessels.
Remote Annual Safety Inspections (ASIs)
Remote Annual Safety Inspections (ASIs) for Vanuatu-flagged vessels are conducted exclusively by the registry’s Safety, Security, Quality and Regulatory Compliance Manager. This measure ensures that remote ASIs meet the registry’s stringent compliance and safety standards. Requests for remote ASIs must be submitted via email to technical@register-vu.com, along with all relevant details to facilitate prompt scheduling and processing.
On-site Inspections
If a vessel inspected by a Flag State Inspector (FSI) is detained within one month of inspection, the authorization of that FSI undergoes thorough review and evaluation. In cases where the vessel’s detention arises from factors such as crew-related issues or other reasons beyond the FSI’s direct control, the inspector’s authorization may remain unaffected.
Enhanced Safety Inspections
Enhanced Safety Inspections are required for all vessels deemed to be high-risk by the registry, regardless of whether they have previously undergone any Flag Annual Safety Inspection or other prior assessments. The determination of risk status is based on:
1. The vessel’s most recent Port State Control records, with particular emphasis on ISM-related deficiencies. The number, severity, and nature of these deficiencies—especially those indicating systemic failures in safety management.
2. The performance of previous Flag State Inspections, taking into account recorded deficiencies and their seriousness in relation to regulatory compliance.
Compliance and Safety in the Paris MoU Region
Within the context of its initiative designed to improve compliance in the Paris MoU region, inspection protocols are continuously being enhanced to minimize detentions. These protocols are tailored to ensure compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory standards. They provide focused oversight for vessels which require close monitoring, whereby deficiencies identified during inspections are addressed immediately.
